Controversy over alleged attack on Aregbesola’s aide in Osun

CONTROVERSY on Monday trailed an alleged attack on Olateju Adunni, an aide to the Minister of Interior, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, at a birthday party by some suspected political thugs in Osogbo.

It was gathered that the incident occurred during a party held at a lounge located in Oroki Estate on Sunday.

Some suspected political thugs were said to have invaded the party and attacked people, including Adunni, who was reportedly injured.

Calls to Adunni and a member of Osun State House of Assembly, representing Osogbo State Constituency, Mr. Taofeek Badmus, who were reportedly at the scene when the attack took place, rang out when our correspondent called them.

Also, text messages to their lines were not responded to as of the time of filing this report.

But an eyewitness, who preferred anonymity, however, said some thugs actually invaded the venue of the party around 10:20pm on Sunday, and unleashed mayhem.

The source said, “Olateju, about five members of Osun State House of Assembly and many others were at the lounge when some thugs invaded the venue. I was beaten. Many people were also injured by the hoodlums.”

But Badmus in a Facebook post said he was not attacked by anyone and did not sustain injury as being insinuated.

When contacted, a management staff of the lounge, who preferred anonymity, said no one was attacked on the premises.

He explained that some hoodlums had trailed a man, whose identity was not known yet to the lounge, adding that security men at the gate did not allow the thugs to enter into the premises.

When asked if the matter was reported to the police, Osun Command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, asked for time to check records before commenting on the issue.

She had not responded to enquiry by our correspondent as of the time of filing this report.
