A drunk policeman shot dead five persons yesterday evening in Enugu State.
Four others sustained gunshot injuries.
It was gathered that the drunk Police Inspector opened fire.
The Enugu State Police Command, in a statement by its spokesman, Daniel Ndukwe, said the officer, attached to the RC Lotto Company at the Golf Estate, GRA, has been arrested.
“Four of the persons said to have sustained gunshot injury are receiving treatment.
“Five others whose injuries were critical have been confirmed dead by doctors and deposited in the mortuary for autopsy,” the police said.
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, who visited the injured victims at Enugu State University of Technology (ESUT) Teaching Hospital, was shocked.
Commissioner for Information, Nnanyelugo Chidi Aroh, said the governor empathised with the victims and wished them quick recovery.
Ugwuanyi announced that his administration would bear the medical expenses.
He deposited some money with the hospital.
