Obi vows to end farmer-herder clashes, tackle poverty

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, on Saturday kicked off his official campaign in Nasarawa State with a promise to end the incessant clashes between farmers and herders if elected as President in 2023.

Obi also vowed to proffer a lasting solution to insecurity issues and address rising poverty and unemployment among the youth.

Speaking at the campaign in Lafia, he lamented that Nigerians were suffering because of the kind of leaders occupying government offices, adding that the prices of food and other goods in the markets would be reduced if he wins the presidential election in 2023.

“If you vote for the Labour Party in 2023, we will address the persistent farmer-herder clashes in Nasarawa State and the farmers will go back to their farms. We will tackle the state of insecurity bedevilling the entire nation.

“We will remove youths out of poverty. We will reduce criminality. We will solve the flood problem ravaging the country. The prices of goods will come down and there would be no challenges of food in the country. When the LP wins, there will no more be a strike in the Nigerian universities. The government will comprise youths and women. We will provide fertiliser to farmers across the nation,” he added.

On his part, the National Chairman of the party, Julius Abure, accused the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress of failing the citizens and the nation.

He said, “In the 2023 elections, we must change the APC and PDP. So, you all should get your permanent voter card so that you will be able to vote for candidates of your choice. Our presidential candidate is strong. We need an energetic and vibrant person because the nation has been suffering from economic hardship due to the wrong choice of candidates.”
