The acting Director General, National Youth Service Corps, Christy Uba, has visited the family of late Oluwole Adetiran, who composed the scheme’s anthem.
The PUNCH reports that Adetiran composed the NYSC anthem while serving as a corps member at The Polytechnic Ibadan, Oyo State in 1984.
Director, Press and Public Relations, NYSC, Eddy Megwa, in a Friday statement acquired by our correspondent, noted that during the visit to the Adetiran family in Lagos on Friday, the Acting-DG noted that the composer’s legacy has outlived him.
Megwa said, “She added that the NYSC anthem is a wake-up call to national consciousness, selfless service, national unity, and integration among corps members.
“Uba prayed for the repose of late Dr. Oluwole Adetiran, adding that the NYSC would always associate with the family.”
He added that, while welcoming Uba and her entourage, Adetiran’s widow, Mrs. Olufemi Adetiran thanked the Acting-DG, adding that the visit rekindled the family’s hope that the NYSC holds them in high esteem.
Megwa also noted that, Rev. Mobiyina Oshoffa, who was on the visit on behalf of the Celestial Church Worldwide, said Adetiran’s legacies in the NYSC and the Celestial Church at large would continue to bring good memories for generations yet unborn.
