On Wednesday, August 8, 2025, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed that the musician attempted to board a ValueJet flight (VK 201) with an alcohol-filled flask, thus violating aviation rules that restrict liquids above 100ml.

Despite being warned multiple times by security personnel, K1 allegedly resisted compliance and spilled the liquid on an officer. He then refused to retreat when the flight door was closing, prompting intervention by aviation security officers.
FAAN in their statement, wrote, “As the boarding continued, an airline security officer asked the passenger to step aside for further clarification. The passenger allegedly refused and spilled the contents of the flask on the officer, which turned out to be alcohol. The flight captain intervened but faced similar resistance. After confirming that boarding was complete, she instructed the closure of the aircraft door.”

In response, FAAN suspended the ValueJet crew and the Civil Aviation Authority pulled the involved pilots pending investigation.
The musician’s camp quickly rebutted the claims, stating that the substance was actually plain drinking water handed to K1 at the lounge — not alcohol — and that the incident was unnecessarily escalated.
The statement read:
At no point did K1 act in a manner that endangered lives or breached safety regulations. The substance in question — which was wrongly sensationalised — was nothing more than plain drinking water, given to him at the airport lounge while he waited to board the aircraft. Despite his respectful effort to clarify this, the situation was unnecessarily escalated.
Meanwhile, Nigerians online are demanding accountability. Many have called for K1’s arrest, citing his conduct as a serious breach of airport security. Some observers are also imposing scrutiny on the airline and airport officials for their handling of the situation.
