Again, dare-devil robbers attack bullion van, kill two in Ondo

Two people have been confirmed dead after some dare-devil robbers attacked a bullion van at Ofosu town, Ore-Shagamu-Benin Expressway, in the Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State.

This is happening barely two weeks after a bullion van was attacked at Emure Ile in the Owo LGA of the state.

The latest attack brings the number of bullion van robberies in the state to four, with one bank robbery, in the last two months.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the gunmen attacked the van while it was heading towards Ore, from Benin, Edo State.

A source said three persons were shot during the incident, including two policemen and a civilian.

The bandits were said to have carted away undisclosed amount of money in the van.

However, another source stated that five people were killed, including policemen and bank officials, who accompanied the bullion van.

The source said the robbers laid in ambush for the van’s convoy, which belonged to a branch of one of the commercial banks in the state.

He said, “The bullion van and the escort were coming from Benin. As they got to Ofosu, the robbers, who had laid in ambush, opened fire on them and killed the deceased, while the other policemen that escorted the van ran into a bush for safety.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident, adding that two people were killed.

She identified the deceased as a policeman and the bullion van driver.

She said, “The incident happened at Ofosu when the bullion van was coming from Benin and going to Araromi Obu. One policeman and the driver of the bullion van were killed.”

The PPRO said investigation had commenced into the incident, while men of the command were already on the trail of the hoodlums.
