A total of 233 senior military officers have been promoted by the respective military boards.
The Nigerian Army Council elevated 117 officers out of which 41 Brigadier Generals were promoted to the rank of Major Generals, while 76 Colonels were promoted to Brigadier Generals.
The Nigerian Navy Board and the Nigerian Air Force Council announced the elevation of 60 senior officers, while 56 senior officers of the Nigerian Navy were similarly promoted.
The Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General, Onyema Nwachukwu, in a statement on Wednesday, listed those promoted to the rank of Major General to include Brigadier General C. U. Onwunle, Director, Directorate of Army Data Processing, Lagos; Brigadier General M. Danmadami, Research Fellow/Subject Expert, Indian Sub-Continent, Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja; Brigadier General O. J. Akpor, Director, Military Training, Nigerian Defence Academy; Brigadier General U. T. Musa of the Department of Administration, Army Headquarters, Abuja; and Brigadier General A. A. Eyitayo, acting General Officer Commanding, 7 Division/JTF North-East, Operation Hadin Kai, Maiduguri, Borno State.
Others are Brigadier General V. Ebhaleme of the Defence Space Administration, Abuja; Brigadier General L. T. Omoniyi of the Department of Civil Military Affairs, Abuja; and Brigadier General N. U. Muktar, acting Director of Procurement, Office of the Chief of Army Staff, Army Headquarters, Abuja, among others.
Onyema also listed those promoted to Brigadier General to include Colonel O. Adegbe, Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command, Minna; Colonel A. A. Babalola, Headquarters 3 Division; Colonel N. N. Orok of the Defence Headquarters; Colonel M. O. Ibrahim, Army War College, Nigeria; Colonel B. O. Omopariola, Commander, 25 Task Force Brigade; Colonel U. V. Unachukwu, Army War College, Nigeria; Colonel O. A. Ojo, Headquarters, Nigerian Army Signals, Lagos; and Colonel H. I. Dasuki of the Forward Operating Base, Ngamdu, Borno State, among others
Nwachukwu said the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, congratulated the promoted officers and their families, and urged them to redouble their efforts to justify the confidence reposed in them.
The announcement of the promotion of 116 naval and air force senior officers came after a meeting on Tuesday, which was presided over by the Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Magashi (retd).
A breakdown of the Nigerian Navy promotion showed that 35 Captains were elevated to Commodores, while 21 Commodores were promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral.
For the Nigerian Air Force, a total of 60 senior officers comprising 29 Air Vice Marshals and 31 Air Commodores were promoted to the next higher ranks.
Also, the NAF Council approved the concessional commission of an Air Warrant Officer and five Master Warrant Officers to the rank of Flight Lieutenant.
The Navy spokesperson, Commodore Suleman Dahun, and his Air Force counterpart, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, confirmed the promotions in separate statements on Wednesday.
In the Nigerian Navy, the newly promoted Rear Admirals are Chibuike Azike, Ismaila Zelani, Alexandra Bingel, Kennedy Ezete, Livingstone Izu, Emmanuel Ogalla, Hamza Kaoje, Saheed Akinwande, Umar Chugali, Eugenio Ferreira, Bashir Mohammed, Mike Oamen, Ayodeji Olugbode, Abdulmajid Ibrahim, Abdullahi Ahmed, John Mamman, Peter Zakaria, Abolaji Orederu, Hamza Ibrahim, Sunday Oyegade and Saburi Lawal.
For the Air Force, the senior officers promoted to the rank of Air Vice Marshal include, Air Commodores Precious Amadi, Nnamdi Ananaba, Abubakar Abdulkadir, Anthony Ndace, Usman Abdullahi, Eneobong Effiom, Iboro Etukudo, Abubakar Abdullahi, Sunday Aneke, Nnaemeka Ilo, Adeniyi Amesinlola, Ebimobo Ebiowe, Micheal Onyebashi, Emmanuel Shobande, Sayo Olatunde, Francis Edosa and Ahmed Shinkafi.
Others are Bashiru Mamman, Halim Adebowale, Ahmed Bakari, Framah Batnah, Adeniran Ademuwagun, Lanre Oluwatoyin, Titus Dauda, Olufemi Ogunsina, Paul Masiyer, Nkem Aguiyi, Abidemi Marquis and Oluwafemi Ogunmola.
Those promoted from the rank of Group Captain to Air Commodore include Chukwuedo Illoh, Bamidele Amuda, Samson Adelakun, Hadi Ahmed, Abiodun Oyekunle, Caleb Olayera, Idorenyin Bassey, Philip Kwasau, Mohammed Omar, Ayodele Akinbuwa, Emeng Imoke, Luqman Lawal, Shaibu Buhari and Ehimen Ejodame.
Others are Mohammed Lawal, Idowu Ayo, Emmanuel Ola, Ewejide Akintunde, Elisha Bindul, Dogo Gani, Edmond Oluokun, Akeem Adebomehin, George Akinyimika, Mohammed Garba, Oladimeji Almaroof, Gowon Sule, Ifeanyi Azubuike, Hamisu Usman, Adebanjo Adeosun, Sabir Adeyanju and Halima Musa, who is the only female officer on the list.
While the SNCOs granted concessional commission to the rank of Flight Lieutenant include Air Warrant Officer Adole Abraham, and Master Warrant Officers Liman Musa, Akinwale Olayinka, Akpabio Josephine, Nwojiji Okemini and Isa-Kaita Aminu.
