NYSC: Gombe intervenes as ATBU fails to mobilise 59 students

No fewer than 59 students of the Federal College of Education Technical, Gombe have been denied the National Youth Service Corps’ mobilisation and exemption letters.

The college offered the affected students various degree programmes in affiliation with Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi.

On completion of their programmes, the students were told that their admission into the college needed to be regularised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board.

However, Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibrahim Njodi, who received the students in his office on Tuesday, promised that the government’s intervention would yield positive results.

He said the government would intervene in order to find a lasting solution to the issue of JAMB regularisation which hindered the students from graduating.

According to Njodi, the government will do all that was necessary to ensure that the impasse is resolved for the good of all interested parties.

He said, “The Government of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa is sensitive to the plight of its citizens, though a Federal Government institution as citizens of Gombe State we will do everything possible to see that all the technicalities are sorted out for you to graduate.”

Njodi, who expressed concern about the situation, promised to meet with relevant authorities with a view to addressing the issue.

Speaking earlier, the leader of the affected students Sani Abubakar said, “We have undergone and completed our studies, and given a statement of result but were not allowed to go for a mandatory NYSC or obtain a certificate of exemption which is the prerequisite for being a graduate. We thereby appeal to the state government to come to our aid.”
