Only sick movie stars should beg for money – Actress Jaiye Kuti

Popular actress Jaiye Kuti has responded to several backlashes she faced for condemning and coming strongly at her senior colleagues who come online to solicit funds.

Jaiye blasted her colleagues, noting that their recent behaviour has brought shame and disgrace to the Yoruba faction of the movie industry.

The actress lashed senior colleagues for the new normal of coming to the social space to beg for money.

Sadly, more of the reactions weren’t in her favour as many condemned her for being unthoughtful and disrespectful.

Addressing the backlash, Jaiye Kuti made it clear that she is not discouraging ailing veterans from seeking help.

However, she expressed strong disapproval of the growing trend where some senior colleagues are taking advantage of the opportunity for their own selfish motives.

“I don’t just talk anyhow, people don’t understand what I am saying. I read over 500 comments and I am addressing those who misunderstood my message.

“I didn’t say we should use social media to help people or that people should come out to ask for help but my message is for those who want to spoil the industry’s name with begging.

“I have also used my social media to seek help for people, and they have sent messages appreciating me.

“I am talking to those who feel entitled to getting help because others are getting help from Nigerians. I told two of those veterans to not come out and beg for help so that when they are in dire need, they wouldn’t lack helpers.

“Let only those who are sick, seek help, but those who are healthy, they should stop coming out to beg,” she said.
