NBC approaches NIDTA for digitalization of operations

The National Broadcasting Commission has reached out to the National Information Technology Development Agency for help in the digitization of its processes.

NBC Director-General, Balarabe Ilelah, paid a courtesy visit to NITDA Corporate Headquarters, seeking the agency’s support.

This was contained in a press statement titled ‘NBC seeks NITDA’s support on capacity building, digital transformation’ issued by NITDA Spokesperson, Hadiza Umar, on Wednesday.

The press statement read, “The National Broadcasting Commission has approached National Information Technology Development Agency and sought for the nation’s IT regulator to intervene in digitization of its processes, to change the commission’s operation by incorporating the use of modern digital technology equipment in monitoring media stations.”

The Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Abdullahi, assured the NBC Director General of his agency’s commitment to deploy its expertise to support any organization with zeal to upgrade to modern technology.

He further assured that NBC would be incorporated into its Digital Transformation Working Group to facilitate capacity building for their personnel and teach them relevant technology application.

Abdullahi also urged NBC to key into the programme and activities being provided by the agency through its Strategic Road Map and Action Plan 2021-2024, advising the Commission to create a similar strategy for the use of modern technology in content regulations.

He was quoted as saying, “The SRAP is designed as a template or map to assist the Agency in achieving its target plans through the execution of the strategic pillars, and I am optimistic that our collaboration will uplift the actualization of its mandates such as digital skills, innovation among others.”

The courtesy visit end with Abdullahi taking NBC DG on a tour within NITDA’s digital building that includes a view of the latest and modern equipment for tracking and curbing possible cyber-attacks in Nigeria.
