NARD writes Ishaku, seeks improved working condition

The National Association of Resident Doctors in Taraba State on Wednesday wrote Governor Darius Ishaku demanding an improved working condition.

In a letter addressed to Ishaku and signed by the President, Dr. Ahmed Uba, and Secretary, Dr. Sabo Rimande, the residents doctors asked the Governor to end casualisation of Medical Doctors at the State Specialist Hospital, Jalingo.

The doctors also demanded the domestication of Medical Residency Training Act in the state and commencement of internship training at State Specialist Hospital for Medical House Officers, Nurses, Laboratory Scientists and Pharmacists.

This is even as the doctors demanded payment of COVID-19 inducement and hazard allowances for all healthcare workers in the state health services.

The letter read partly, “We wish to bring to the notice of your Excellency lingering issues affecting resident doctors in the state which include implementation and payment of arrears of doctors recently promoted.

“Payment of correct amount of equivalent to grade level for all medical students on bond as stipulated by the bond signed with the state government.

“Correction of the under payment of members and provision of running cost for health facilities and hospitals in the S
    state.”

The residents doctors who requested an audience with the Governor to address the issues raised also called for compensation for death in service for Dr. Ameh Sunday who died from complications of COVID-19 and LASSA Fever while working at the Taraba State Specialist Hospital in Jalingo.

PUNCH reports that the strike embarked upon by the resident doctors has paralysed activities across government hospitals in the state.
