Niger Delta backward, needs to be rescued – Obi

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, has stormed Delta State for his campaign ahead of the forthcoming 2023 presidential elections, lamenting that the Niger Delta region was backward to compare the resources accrued to it.

Obi who lamented the situation in Niger Delta promised to turn around the fortunes of the region if elected as the president come 2023.

He said, “We have gone to Warri, Isoko, Agbor and Asaba only today, that is to show you our seriousness and commitment, and in all the places, people came out en masse to support us.

“Niger Delta supposed to be a haven, things are not working in the region. From here to Warri is supposed to be dualised. East-Eest road has been constructed for the past 24 years, but nothing is working in this region.

“Somebody said it is his turn to be president, I want to tell you that President is not turned by turn. If it is turn by turn, it is supposed to be my turn but we are not shifting turns. It is the turn of Nigerians to be president especially those full of energy.

“No tribe buys bread or rice cheaper, no religion buys bread cheaper. Vote for commitment and capacity.

“We are not going to give excuses. I am not going to remind you of where you’re coming from or blame people where they failed. I’m assuring you that a new Nigeria is possible.

“Hold me responsible if we failed you in the area of security and economy. We will make the country work again. There will be no more strikes in the education sector again in this country.”

Obi and his campaign team earlier held a town hall meeting in Warri as part of his campaign to the Delta.

In his remark, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Dr Julius Abure, lamented the difficulty facing Nigerians, appealing to them to vote for President that makes the economy work again.

He appreciated the party faithful for their support in changing and rescuing the nation and also enjoined them to obtain their PVCs to bring about the much-needed change in the country.
