Following controversy that trailed the banning of traditional religion practice in Iwo land by Oluwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has said traditionalists are free to exercise their fundamental human rights.
The Nation recalled that Oluwo had banned some practices of traditional worshippers in his domain indefinitely, stating that it was not in consonance with civilisation. However, the traditional worshippers dared the monarch by insisting that they would continue with their activities, especially to mark 2023 Isese Day.
Governor Adeleke has intervened in the impending crisis by advocating peaceful coexistence among the religious groups.
A statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, said: “Governor Adeleke has deployed his Special Adviser on Security, Mr. Samuel Ojo, to Iwo for urgent interface with both sides. The special adviser, who was at the palace in Iwo, met stakeholders and made a telephone conversation with Oluwo, who was out of town.
“He also had interactions with some traditionalists, who had vowed to converge on Iwoland to challenge the traditional ruler, who had reportedly banned traditionalists from his domain.”
The statement said: “He spoke with Kabiyesi Oluwo and he promised to ensure peace and security, though he is out of town. He interacted with some other traditional leaders not far from the palace.
