An Islamic school in Bauchi metropolis, Madarasatu Tarbiyatul Aɗafal Wa Tahfizil Qur’an Kareem, Bayan Nitel, has organised a special three-day prayer for the repose of the soul of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking with PUNCH Online on Tuesday on the reasons for the prayers, the school director, Imam Abdullahi Hashimu, stated that the prayers, which commenced on Monday, would continue until Wednesday.
He explained that the decision to hold the prayers was made after the school realised they couldn’t contribute to Buhari’s soul in any other meaningful way, despite his visible impact on the country.
“We observed and realised that we don’t have anything relevant to contribute to his soul as poor individuals other than prayers.
“According to the teachings of Islam, one of the prayers that the Almighty Allah accepts immediately are the prayers of children,” he said.
Hashimu encouraged other individuals and schools across the country to join in praying for Buhari.
While explaining the reason for using the children for the prayers, Hashim cited the Prophet Muhammad’s saying that children and animals are reasons why the world is spared from punishment.
“Prophet Muhammad peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, told us, ‘If not because of little children, and animals, He would have punished the world entirely. That is why we are using the Prophet’s saying to use children in praying for the late president.
“By praying for him and other departed souls, someday we will equally have those that will pray for us when we are late,” he added.
