‎PDP Blames Governors’ Defections on Greed, Remains Focused on 2027

‎The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has attributed the recent defections of governors to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to greed and selfishness, asserting that Nigerians will determine their fate in the 2027 elections.

‎Speaking on Arise Television on October 17, 2025, PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary Ibrahim Abdullahi criticized defectors, including Governors Peter Mbah (Enugu) and Douye Diri (Bayelsa), who joined Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta) and Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom) in leaving the party since 2023. He dismissed their actions as driven by “covetousness” and coercion by the APC, which he accused of aiming for a one-party state.

‎Abdullahi emphasized the PDP’s resilience, focusing on its upcoming Ibadan convention to reposition for 2027, calling the defections “good riddance.” South South Zonal Chairman Elder Emmanuel Ogidi alleged APC intimidation, while Professor Udenta O. Udenta labeled defectors as “cowardly” for lacking commitment to federalism.

‎Meanwhile, a Federal High Court in Abuja reiterated an order to maintain the status quo in a suit seeking to halt the PDP’s November 15-16 convention, scheduling a hearing for October 20. A dispute over legal representation between PDP counsels Chris Uche and Kamaldeen Ajibade highlighted internal party tensions
